I wasn’t happy with how much the pacing slowed when he got
to the Tightrope. Having him bounce or fall from it didn’t really work
ether, so I went with another of the early obstacles I considered, Quad Steps. I might still do a tightrope animation later on; along with
the other short exercises I’m going to do for my project.
Rather than spamming my blog with references this time, I just
put the best bits of them into one video. Apparently there are a few techniques for these obstacles so I made
sure to only collect references of the same kind (the one that runs straight
across, called Stride Method) Partly because it keeps up the frantic pace, but
also because it’s kind of just a more interesting run cycle.
I like extreme weight shifts are they propel themselves from
one side to another with each step, as well as the way the ungrounded foot,
swings for momentum. I also want to exaggerate the distance between
platforms (otherwise they wouldn’t really be a problem for a squirrel).
With the rapid changing of direction I can also add in some
really nice secondary motion with the tail.
